Letters from Kenya

Republic of Kenya (East Africa)
October, 2005

Dear Sisters in Japan,
Hello. How are you? I am doing well. I arrived at Nairobi safely just a week ago. It took eight hours from Paris by plane. Our novitiate house is located 16 km away from Nairobi and it is surrounded by the wonderful nature. We have a garden with beautiful flowers, a cattle hut and a vegetable field. The size of the compound is much larger than that in Burkina-Faso in West Africa. There are a lot of religious congregations in our neighborhood and this area look like the small Vatican City. The other day I took part in a training program for postulants and to my surprise we had 150 participants from 34 different religious congregations. There were more than 200 participants from over 40 congregations for a training program for novices.

We have electricity and telephone here but we don't have enough water so we always try to save water. The common language in our community is English and I am doing my best to work in the novitiate. I appreciate your prayers for me and for my mission. The attached photo is a young Masai. Four members of DHM are working in his village.

United in love and prayers,
J-ko
