Every Day is the Day of the LordWhen we get up in the morning, the first thing to do is to call His name, thank Him for this new day, and surrender ourselves to Him and to do our best for Him today. Tomorrow will take care of tomorrow. We don't know what God has prepared for us and is awaiting for us today. So let us have faith in Him. Whatever happens is His will. If we try to live in His presence during the day, He will lead us and let us know what to do, how to do, when to do, and why to do. We need to be sensitive to listen to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Today everything may go easy and we may feel fine, happy and accepted. That is because it is the Day of the Lord. On another day things may go astray and we may feel low, betrayed, or insulted, yet it is the day of the Lord. Jesus Himself had gone through bitterness of His agony when His close friends denied and betrayed Him. He felt great rejection in front of a big crowd before He was crucified. But it was the day of the Lord when Jesus was sorrowful to the point of death. He fell on his face and prayed, ‘ My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass me by. Nevertheless let it be as you, not I, would have it.' In our daily lives, we have little sufferings one way or another. This helps us to experience the day of the Lord. If we experience Jesus in our life, we lack nothing. It will give us strength, courage and hope. We will belong to the lasting kingdom of God, to be with Him to participate in His heavenly joy. Let us make our day worth, not worst. Every day is very precious. We receive the day of the Lord as a gift everyday and we must try to live each day in total surrender to the Lord, with gratitude, with thanksgiving, and courageously in order to participate in His suffering, death and resurrection. Then we can say that each day is the day of the Lord. We can welcome each day with open hearts, minds, and arms to embrace the day with faith, love, and hope. Because it is a day of the Lord, we will live our life worthy and get strength from the Lord, who is our master and everything. What will you think when you stand on the top of a high mountain and look down a small city? Whey are they so busy? What are they crazy about? Some are pursuing wealth, possessions and pride. Others are dishonest and making others troubles. On the top of the mountain, we experience how great and almighty God is. The winds, the seas, the mountains and numerous creatures and the beautiful nature speak greatness of God. And here we realize what a tiny thing we are. Our gazes should focus on high things, heavenly things and we live our day for the Lord, because every day is the day of the Lord. Every day is the day of the Lord. Therefore we can touch the Lord, smell the Lord, and feel His presence around us. We can listen to Him. We can walk with Him. We can enjoy His company. We can participate in His holy banquet, the Eucharist. We can ponder before the Lord. We can talk to the Lord. He comes to us in different forms, through wind, through music and art, through strangers, through events and situations in simple form of things and persons. He comes through the homeless, the neglected. We should be aware and open our hearts and minds to receive Him any time because it is the day of the Lord. He comes to us through reading holy scriptures, through our brothers and sisters, or through our neighbors. It is the day of the Lord. Let us make the best of a day as the day of the Lord. Embrace the day as a precious gift from God. Let us give Him ourselves, our time, talents, and abilities. Let us love Him and His people. Let us present our lives as a living song of God and bear witness of our belonging to Christ our Lord Jesus. Josephine Silveira |
